Will you be ready for the future?

This report, generated by Institute For The Future for the University of Phoenix Research Institute:

“…analyzes key drivers that will reshape the landscape of work and identifies key work skills needed in the next 10 years. It does not consider what will be the jobs of the future. Many studies have tried to predict specific job categories and labor requirements. Consistently over the years, however, it has been shown that such predictions are difficult and many of the past predictions have been proven wrong. Rather than focusing on future jobs, this report looks at future work skills—proficiencies and abilities required across different jobs and work settings.”

A pretty interesting list. I see some of these already playing pretty important roles in current work settings, and I would say that at least half of them have some strand of diversity and/or inclusion work woven through them.

Is your organization building and/or acquiring these skills?

Are you?

Tick, tock.

Be good to each other.

Joe, thanks for your focus on the future. we need to build skills in these 10 areas. Sure will keep us on our toes. Dan Pink says we need “A Whole New Mind,” and many of the categories in his book coincide with these.

A great list and intriguing because it’s stuff that’s pretty hard to develop – it is a way of thinking about things vs memorizing knowledge or finding it on google.

I find #7: Transdisiplinarity most interesting. We push and push toward specialization, yet it is the jack of all trades that are adaptable and seem to create the innovations that move things forward. Perhaps it’s because they can make connections and see patterns and benefit from knowledge across different fields. What others see as disparate information, they see as congruent and usable patterns. As Heinlein said, “Specialization is for insects.”
