I came across an interesting blog that is maintained by Diane Strafford of the Kansas City Star regarding workplace issues. I like this post, which is a good reminder that the numbers we tend to rely on do not always tell the entire story:
Who’s really hurting in the job market
In February, the national unemployment rate was 4.8 percent. But, as everyone who passed math knows, averages don’t tell the whole story.
The jobless rate for African-Americans last month was 8.3 percent. For teenagers who were in the job market, the jobless rate was 16.6 percent. Among Hispanics, 6.2 percent were unemployed.
And among black teenagers who looked for work, the jobless rate was a whopping 31.7 percent.
That’s the hurt.
The rest of the post is here.
