My Work

A bit about what I do…

Because there are more and more visitors coming here on a regular basis and becuase I have gotten to know a lot of new folks in the past year (especially through Twitter), I thought it might be good to write a little bit about what I do.

I am primarily a Keynote Speaker and Workshop Facilitator…this is probably about 75% of my work.  I do keynote speaking for a variety of audiences at local, regional and national conferences.  I have spoken at Minority Health, Leadership, Education, Social Justice, Social Work, Diversity, Community Service and Human Resource Conferences.  Here are a few of examples of speaking gigs in the near future:

  • Human Resource Association of Midlands in Omaha, NE (keynote and workshop on Generational Diversity)
  • Social Media Seminar in Appomattox, Virginia (keynote on Community, Communication and Change)
  • Fair Houseing Conference in Lincoln, NE (keynote on Why Diversity Matters)
  • Sales and Marketing Executives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota  (keynote on What Leadership Means for Tomorrow)
  • SD Society for Human Resource Management Conference in Pierre, SD (keynote on Generational Diversity)

So, I do keynote presentations on a variety of topics for a variety of audiences, but they are all connected to issues of diversity, inclusion, authenticity, innovation, transformation and leadership.  I also do a variety of workshops (2 hour workshops to 8 hour workshops), and they are also based on the same basic themes.

About half of the workshops that I do are for a specific group / corporation / organization…and those are generally a little bit more customized, based on what the organization is hoping to accomplish.  I do these workshops for Fortune 500 Corporations, public schools, associations, hospitals, church leadership teams, non-profits and other groups.

The other half of my workshops are open-enrollment, hosted and planned by me.  Some of my more popular workshops are:

  • Working with Humans: Diversity, Inclusion and Collaboration @ Work
  • Making Stuff Up:  Creativity and Innovation | Strategies and Tactics
  • Got Blog?  Putting Social Media to Work
  • Lighting the Fuse:  Creating and Supporting High Performance Teams
  • What You Don’t Know You Don’t Know:  Blind Spots and Leadership
  • Leading the Revolution: Organizational Capacities for Diversity and Inclusion

I do many of these workshops in Omaha, but have also delivered them in about a dozen other cities and plan to take them to new places in 2009.

In addition to my speaking and facilitating work, I do :

  • some consulting work (developing training and supporting materials, facilitating planning and visioning sessions, strategic planning for diversity councils and employee resource groups, etc.)
  • some writing (here mostly, but have also been published in The Diversity Factor and try to be active in a number of online communities)

So.  Hopefully for those of you that are just getting to know me, that helps provide a little context regarding the work that I do.  If you would like to discuss having me speak to your group or organization, or facilitate a workshop I am easy to reach.

I’m waaay to far away (Australia) to participate in these, but your workshop names are really catchy and are a refreshing change from the usual.
